THE BUTTER MARKET
TO TJISS *DItO* 0* THB PBBSB. (Sir,—Replying to Mr H. Bliss's further remark* on local butter prices and hi« statement »t the time he wrote that the price of butter on the London market was IDS* per cwt. and I had ample time to consider his letter, it Was not until the afternoon of November 28 that the writer was asked by "The Fm»" whether he wished to make any comments. Mr Bliss answers his own question, viz., "Why cannot Canterbury secure for the producer the same price as the North Island?" when he admits that his intentions were by publicity to advine supplier# that they were not receiving the same advances as other centres owing to local price-cutting. Prom Mr Bliss's remarks it would appear that he would like the price of butter on the local market to exceed London parity, which would leave the door still further open for some factories to continue their practice of granting special concessions, a state of affairs which Is not in the beet* interest of the producer.—Yours, etc.,
S. J. SMITH, General Manager, Central Dairy Co. December 2, 1935.
