MUSICAL COMEDY COMPANY

NO IMMEDIATE PLANS FOR

NEW PRODUCTION

Although a heavy loss was incurred in the production of "Sally" this year, the Christchurch Musical Comedy Company decided to carry on at its annual meeting last evening, though no plans will be yet made for another production. References were made to successful productions in former years, when heavy debts had been wiped out, and it was suggested that if a good musical comedy were staged this year the company might be put on its feet again. Mr F. W. M. Cowlishaw, who took the chair in the absence of the president, said tha.t it would be preferable if the society were to carry on without making any immediate arrangements to produce another musical comedy. In six months' time or less the committee could call a meeting of the society if it was felt that the time was opportune for another production. He proposed a motion, which was carried, that this action be taken. It was decided that the secretary should write to other societies in the Dominion to make enquiries about works suitable for production. Members stated that other societies had been very successful in their presentations, and had been able to show substantial credit balances. The balance-sheet showed a cash balance of £1 12s Id. It was stated that the sum of £lB5 5s Id which was still owing after the production of "Sally," had not been placed on the balance-sheet, but was left as a debt of honour. The entertainment committee had raised £4O Os 5d towards reducing this debt. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr Norton Francis; vicepresidents (to be elected later); committee, Misses R. Pedder and P. Barter, Messrs F. \v. M. Cowlishaw, D. McKlvett, C. Hindle, C. Guy, A. Craighead, and A. Pedder; hon. treasurer, Mr H. Hobbs.

Mr Wyn Cowlishaw was appointed chairman of committees for the ensuing year.
