KING'S TRIBUTE TO LORD JELLICOE
. * "CONFIDENCE AND AFFECTION" OF MANY PEOPLE (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.) RUGBY, November 22. The King and Queen yesterday sent a telegram of sympathy to Lady Jellicoe and a Court circular, issued from Buckingham Palace, contained the following notable tribute by the King to the memory of Lord Jellicoe: "The King has learned with profound sorrow of the death of Admiral of the Fleet Earl Jellicoe, who will, for all time, be remembered as the commander of the Grand Fleet during the long and critical period of the war. The King knows that the Ipss of this great seaman will be deeply felt throughout the whole Empire, and not least by the people of New Zealand, the Royal Navy, and former soldiers and sailors, whose confidence and affection he quickly won by his devotion to their welfare."
MUSSOLINI'S MESSAGE OF SYMPATHY LONDON, November 22. The tributes to Earl Jellicoe include a message from Signor Mussolini sympathising with the Admiralty on the death of an illustrious admiral. FRENCH NAVAL FLAGS AT HALF-MAST PARIS, November 22. An order has been given that ensigns in the French fleet and at the naval bases shall be flown at half-mast until after Earl Jellicoe s funeral, an honour previously paid only to French Admirals, the King of the Belgians, Marshal Joffre, and Marshal Foch.
