VIOLENT STORM IN ITALY
Seventy-Two Dead TELEGRAPH LINES AND ROADS DESTROYED (UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION— COPMIGHT.) (Received November 24, 8.10 p.m.) ROME, November 23. It is officially announced that 72 perished in a ' violent storm which swept Sicily and Southern Italy, including Naples. There was much damage also in the Messina district, where many landslides occurred after torrential rain had fallen for seven hours. A family of, six was drowned at Mammola when the house was washed away in a flood torrent. Messina itself was six feet under water in some parts. Two slight earthquakes were also felt. The rescuers used rafts to reach families stranded in upper floors of buildings. Telephone and telegraph lines and roads were destroyed over a large area.
