FOOTPRINTS ON BEACH SEEN STEAMER LEAVES TO LAND GROUND PARTY HOPES FOR SIR CHARLES KINGSFORD-SMITII (UNITED I'HESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIOHT.) (Received November 24, 7.10 p.m.) SINGAPORE, November 23. Captain Hussey, commander of a Qantas-Empire Airways machine, arrived at Singapore from Sayer Island, where flares were reported by the captain of the steamer Pasha. He says he searched six islands, two of which were covered with heavy jungle. He flew low and saw footprints in the sand and also the marks of a boat keel. The Straits Steamship Company ship Matang is leaving for Sayer Island to make a ground search in cas>e Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith and Mr T. Pethybridge are there. NATIVE'S STORY REPORT OF CRASH IN FLAMES (Received November 25, 12.35 a.m.) PENANG, November 24. It is reported that a native at Setul, on the border between Siam and Malaya, saw an aeroplane crash in flames in the mountains. A Royal Air Force aeroplane searched the area, but with no result. It will search again to-mor-row.
