SUNNIEST CITY IN NEW ZEALAND
♦ CHRISTCHURCH IN OCTOBER Christchurch was the sunniest city in New Zealand during October, according to records taken by the Government meteorological service and published in the Gazette. The monthly tables compiled in Wellington frequently upset ideas about the weather in different parts of New Zealand, and this seems to have been the case for October. The sunniest place in New Zealand during the month was Napier, where there was bright sunshine for 214.6 hours, and the darkest place was Waipoua State Forest, in North Auckland, with only 112.3 hours. Christchurch was the sunniest city, with 185.8 hours. Dunedin was second, with 179.8, Auckland third, with 177.7, and Wellington next with 158.7. . Rainfall figures show that the wettest place in New Zealand was the Mangahao hydro-electric works settlement, where rain measured 45.05 inches. The driest place was Roxborough East, in Otago Central, with only .51in,
