DIOMEDE'S MOVEMENTS
VISIT TO SINGAPORE Details of the movements of H.M.S. Diomede have been received inAuck-v land by air mail from members of the strip's* company. The wa/ship left Auckland on October 20 for -a destination which was not disclosed, and she was, last reported by cablegram from Darwin. The letters state that after a five hours' stay at Darwin the Diomede proceeded to Singapore at an average speed of 23 knots. On arriving at Singapore the Diomede was met by a fighting squadron of Royal Air Force bombing aeroplanes, which carried out manoeuvres with the cruiser. Flour "bombs" were dropped round the cruiser by the hundred and there were two direct hits, which, had the borabti been real might have aunk the ship. It is stated that the commander, Captain Cosmo Graham, made an announcement to the crew at Singapore concerning the Diomede'o movements. He is said to have informed them that they were going to Colombo. It was (anticipated that th» Diomfid® would fee relieved early in the imw year, when she would return to Auckland, via the Pacific Islands.
