The council decided to apply for the rebate, so that it may be made available to ratepayers at an early date. The council's consent was endorsed on the survey plan of road deviation in the Leamington gorge. It was also

decided to consider the possibility of closing part of the old Eggleston road. Accounts amounting to £BBB 13s 2d ) were approved for payment. The depuj tation. which was led by Mr C. F. Holton. submitted a scheme to builc a breastwork along the foreshore a 1 Gore Bay and restore the road thert for £IOOO. The deputation urged that the council adopt this scheme instead of the engineer's proposal to deviate the road away from the danger zone s and build protective groynes.

The council decided that the engineer confer with the Gore Bay residents and prepare plans for their proposal for submission to next c&un- , cil meeting and the Loans Board. i The motion to revoke the resolution . ordering the removal of all cattlestops on county roads was not pro- = ceeded with; but a further notice ol - motion '.vas given that the resolution ; be simply revoked without also grantt ing the right to build cattle-stops if ■, an indemnifying insurance policy is 1 tnken out. , There was a dicussion on the pro- - posal to construct the Hurunui-Blythe road, and it was decided to endeavour 3 to obtain particulars from the Un--2 employment Board as to the conditions under which relief labour would 1 be made available for the work. j It was decided to hand over to the county solicitors for collection all , 19'u-l-uo rates not yet paid. I It was resolved to ascertain from j the Health Department if a part of j the paper road leading north from j McQueen's branch road could be i closed and used as a disposal area for I the proposed Cheviot township sani- | tation service.
