♦ CIVIL PROCEEDINGS STARTED (FBI9S iSSOCIATIO* TELEQBAM.) TAUMARUNUI, November 14. In the Magistrate's Court, before Mr R. M. Watson, S.M.. Richard Cobbe, manager of the Chateau Tongariro, claimed from E. J. R. Seeker, farmer, cf Hastings, £2OO general damages and £l2 13s 6d hospital and medical expenses. The statement of claim alleged that on September 8 the defendant, while staying at the Chateau Tongariro, assaulted and struck the plaintiff on the left temple, thereby causing concussion, external swelling, and contusion of the brain. The plaintiff further alleged that as a result of the assault he was in hospital from September 9 to September 23; that since leaving hospital he had been unable to carry cut his duties: and that he would be incapacitated until at least December 31. 1935. Mr J. A. Gordon appeared for the plaintiff and Mr D. H. Hall, representing Hastings solicitors, appeared for the defendant. The defendant's solicitors said that there was a difficulty in that it was impossible to obtain the presence of one important witness, and they asked for an adjournment. The magistrate agreed to adjourn the case till December 13, at the defendant's request.
