FLOWER SHOW

ENCOURAGING DISPLAY AT CHORLTON In spits of the storm, the first flower show organised by the Chorlton-LUtle Akaloa branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, held in the Chorlton Hall, was an unqualified success. Considering the size of tha district, the display of flowers was a splendid one, there being more than 200 entries, the only outside ones being from members of tho Pigeon Bay branch. Besides the flowers there were stalls for plain sewing, ice-cream, sweets, afternoon tea, and a bran tub for the children. The results will help the branch's "sewin'g-for-the-poor" fund. Mrs Robinson and Mrs Reg. Mason, of Okain's Bay, were tho judges. In the evening a progressive euchre tournament was held, 'when the prize-winners were Miss Joyce and Mr H. Craw. Mrs R. E. Waghorn presented the prizes. Mr V. Craw, president of the Chorlton-Littlc Akaloa branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, congratulated the Women's Division on its pluck in inaugurating a flower show, and hoped that each succeeding year would bo better than the last.
