KENNEL CLUB'S SHOW

RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED HIGH STANDARD OF DOGS Record entries were received for the Canterbury Kennel Club's thirtieth annual show, which opened at the Showgrounds yesterday, and the standard of the dogs exhibited was generally acknowledged to be an imi provement on that of last year. The judges spent a busy day and had not completed their task by 5.30 p.m., when it was decided to stop judging until 9.30 a.m. to-day. The judges were Mr D. D. Wilson, Hamilton (sporting dogs, including Terriers), Mr S. H. Rastall, Wellington (toy dogs and Bulldogs), and Mr Norman Wade, Auckland (all other breeds). The club's action in providing three judges, instead of only one as last year, was widely praised by the exhibitors, and the result was that the annoying delays of last year were eliminated. The awards of the judges also met with general satisfaction. Although the majority of the exhibitors live in or near Christchurch fanciers from as far north as Auckland and as far south as Dunedin were represented. There was a remarkably large entry of toy dogs, particularly of Pekingese. In the limit and open classes for dogs of this breed, Mrs J. D. Jorgensen was successful with her dog General of Tanadees. The class for Borzois, initiated last year, attracted more entries than at the previous show. This year there ware classes for Great Danes and St. i Bernards, and also for Chow Chows, which have not been exhibited for I some years.
