DEMAND FOR POTATOES | INCREASES : FOWL WHEAT CONTINUES FIRM| i (by our commercial editor.l j Tuesday Evening, j Wellington has shewn sl ; ghtly more i interest 'in the local potato market during the lest few days, and quotations have firmed a little, though the busim ss done has been very small indeed. Transections have taken place at the equivalent of £G 10s to £7 a ton nn trucks. Holders nre still interested in the market, but the rest of the trade, except perhaps farmers who have been left with part of tneii crop, have decided that the season is over. A certain amount of business has been donr> in next year's crop at about £3 to £3 5s on trucks. Fowl wheat cont.nues nrm, ane. sales have been made as high as 4s ad, f.0.15. . Australian Qats are being quoted from Auckland, where they, can be landed at 4s 2d. sacks in. This quotation is equivalent to a little more than 3s on trucks here, and will probably have some effect on the local market. The samples so far to hand are not particularly impressive.
