Lament, previously announced as official Democrat candidate for the Rofkiil .seat, said tc-day that he was no longer a member of the Democrat party. He said he did not wish to discuss his reasons for leaving the party, nor would he say whether he would be withdrawing as a candidate for Reskill. OAMARU ELECTORATE MR H. Gladstone Hill, organiser of fne Democrat party at Christchurch, as Democrat candidate for the Oamaru electorate, makes a triangular contest for this electorate at the general election. The other candidates are Mr J. A. Macpherson (sitting member and Government candidate) and the Rev. A. H. Noidmeyer 'Labour). EASTERN MAORI SEAT (PR»SS ASSOCIATION TELJGRAM.) GISBORNE, November 5. Mr Rewiti Kohere, of East Cape, a well-known member of the Ngatiporou tribe, announces his candidature for the Eastern Maori seat as an Independent. CANDIDATE WITHDRAWS '*»«»» ASSOCIATION TIL1«»»M.) WELLINGTON, November 5. Mr P. B. Fitzherbert announces his withdrawal as a candidate for the Otaki seat. He explains that he accepted nomination to emphasise the necessity for putting an end to moneylending, and says he withdraws in favour of the Labour party, as it is too late in the day to centre public attention on this issue. AVON Mr L. C. Walker will speak at the corner of Nicholl street and North Avon road this evening. MID-CANTERBURY SEAT There was an attendance of 120 persons on Monday evening at the Dunsandel Hall, where Mr W. H. Woods, Democrat candidate, opened his campaign. Mr J. H. Skinner presided, and the speaker was accorded a vote of th?nks, on the motion of Mr R. J. Riches.
RICCARTON Mr G. T. Thurston, Labour candidate for Riccarton, held two meetings last evening. The first was at the corner of Burnside and Ham roads, Bryndwr, and was presided over by Mr C. J. Wood, at the conclusion of which a vote of thanks was carried. The second was held at the Lower Riccarton Town Hall, where Mr W. Cole presided. There was an attendance of more than 100, a.:d a motion of confidence in the candidate and the Labour party was carried unanimously. A well-attended meeting of Riccarton electors listened to an address by Mr J. E. Cclechin, Independent candidate for Riccarton, last evening. At the close of the meeting Mr Colechin was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., National candidate for Riccarton. held a meeting in the Prebbleton Hall last evening. Mr F. Carpenter presided over about 150 electors. A vote of thanks was passed to the candidate. Mr Kyle will speak at Springston South to-night. KAIAPOI SEAT Mr T. H. McCombs addressed a meeting in the Islington Hall on behalf of Mr Morgan Williams, the Labour candidate for the Kaiapoi seat. Mr G. McGlinchy presided. The speaker was accorded a vote of thenks for his address and a vote of confidence in the Labour party was carried without dissent. Mr R. W. Hawke, M.P.. National candidate for Kaiapoi, addressed a meeting at the Ohoka Hall last night After answering many questions, he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mr J. H. Clist presided.
