OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Sorrlw.) WELLINGTON, November 4. The following is the Dominion Observatory's special weather forecast for Canterbury:— Strong north-east to north-west winds, backing to southerly during to-morrow. Weather fine and mild at first, but soon clouding over, and showers and colder conditions likely to-morrow. Seas moderate, later rising. The follcjwing is the Dominion forecast: — Mainly fair; mild at first in eastern districts, otherwise changeable. Squally rain in western districts, and in the far north and south, with heavy falls in Westland; later showers extending also to eastern areas. Temperatures mild, but becoming colder to-mor-row. The depression has passed rapidly eastwards, but another is now approaching from the Tasman sea. Winds—Moderate to strong and increasing north-westerly to westerly, backing to southerly to-night in the far south; southerlies becoming general within the next 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Fovcaux Straits; elsewhere moderate, but rising. Eastern Tasman—Strone westerly winds, backing to southerlies; seas rough. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Yesterday there was a reversion to warm, sunny weather in the city after a long spell of wet, overcast days. Though the morning was calm, a strong north-east wind sprang up in the afternoon and continued to blow late into the evening. The maximum temperature was 60 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning, the weather was overcast and calm. The temperature was 50 degrees. The barometer, falling, registered 29.65 inches. IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—The weather yesterday was overcast and threatening. There were, showers during the early morning, and continuous light rain in the evening. The wind was light and variable, being mostly from the south during the dav. The barometer was steady at 29.80 in. Weiiington—The weather was fine, although during the afternoon tho sky clouded over. A light southerly wind blew until about 11.15 a.m., after which a northerly sprang up and freshened in the afternoon. The minimum temperature during Sunday night was 47.2. The maximum yesterday was 62.0. Dunedin—A moderate north-east wind blew and the weather was fine and sunny yesterday. The maximum temperature was 58 degrees. The barometer fell slightly during the day, and steadied at 29.60 in last night.
