Germany and Persia Germany and Persia have agreed to exchange goods to the value of £2,750,000' a year. Persia will provide Germany with metals, wool, cotton, cereals, dried sfruits and caviare (pickled or salted roe of fish) and Germany will supply Persia with textile machinery, electrical apparatus, motorlorries, and household goods. Employed in Britain The British Ministry of Labour estimate* that on September 23 there were more than 10,435,000 people between the ages of 16 and 64 in employment in Britain. This number was 11,000 more than on August 26, and 192,000 more than a year before. Floods in China Thousands of lives have been lost in the floods which have been sweeping northern Kiangau, China. The northern part of the province, Honan, is suffering from the flood while the southern part of the province is suffering from famine caused by drought. The people of southern Honan are reduced to eating grass, roots and tree-bark. - Byrd Expedition Rear-Admiral R. E. Bryd has announced that he might make a third expedition to the Antarctic, in spite of the hardships of the last expedition. He believes it will take two or three years to complete work on the scientific data he and his men gathered on, the last trip. Explosion in Chicago An explosion, followed by fire, wrecked a huge factory in Chicago on Monday. At least seven people were killed, six are still , missing and 26 of the injured are in hospital. The damage done is estimated at 500,000 dollars (about £100,000). The Duke of Gloucester's Wedding At 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, the Duke of Gloucester and Lady Alice Montagu-Douglas-Scott will be married at . Westminster Abbey, London. Because the * Duke of Buccleuch is ill, Lady Alice will be given away by her brother, the Earl of Dalkeith, who is a friend of the Duke . of Gloucester. Three processions' will pass through London to the Abbey: first that of the King and Queen with an escort of Household Cavalry, second that of the Duke of Gloucester with a similar escort, and ; third that of the bride, from her father's residence in Grosvenor Place. Between 1500 and 2000 guests will probably be invited to the wedding. „
