TROUBLES OF SHEEP FARMERS
[From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, September 17. .Two of the sheep farmer's troubles were mentioned at question time in the House of Representatives to-day—-the depredations of the kca and the menace of swamp fever. Mr E. £• Heaiy (C.. Wairau) gave notice to ask the Minister for Agriculture to reconsider ' the urgent need for restoring the subsidy on kea beaks. He said that 12 county councils in Marlborough and Canterbury had agreed to rnaKe grants on beaks if subsidised by the Government. Mr T. D. Burnett (C., Temuka) gave notice to ask the Minister what progress had been made by the officers of his department in their investigation of the causes of the. stock disease known in the North Island as facial eczema, and in the south as swamp fever. Last summer this disease had been responsible for the death of many I thousands of sheep, and the result of departmental investigation and the conclusions arrived at would be of [intense interest to many sheep farmers.
