AEROPLANE CRASHES AND BURNS

♦ PILOT BADLY INJURED PERTH, September 17. When the aeroplane he was piloting over Marylands Airport crash-ad and burst into flames, Alex Gilpin, aged 24, a member of the literary staff of the "Daily News," was badly injured and burned. 'Spectators saw the machine catch fire. Gilpin attempted to struggle from the cockpit, but he was handicapped by a broken leg, and he fell back into the flames. Rescuers dragged him to safety.
