LEAGUE COUNCIL ELECTION

ECUADOR AND RUMANIA NEW MEMBERS

(BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.) (Received September 17, 7.5 p.m.) RUGBY, September 16. At the meeting of the League Assembly at Geneva this afternoon the election of three non-perman-ent members of the council to replace Czechoslovakia, Mexico, and Poland, took place. This morning Poland had been given the right to ask for re-election. Ecuador and Rumania were the other two candidates, and Rumania received 50 votes, Ecuador 45, and Poland 42. Austrian delegates protested against the system of elections to the council, and urged that all members be given an equal opportunity of serving.
