Captain and Mrs Neill Rattray (Waimate), who returned yesterday from England, will leave to-day for their home in Waimate. Mrs H. T. J. Thacker, president of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, and Mrs A. Keith Hadfield (hon. treasurer) left last night for Wellington, to join a deputation which will wait on the Prime Minister to-day, to ask for the restoration of the capitation grant to the free kindergartens of New Zealand. Mrs Charles Rattray (Dunedin), who has been visiting Christchurch left yesterday for "lona," Parnassus, to visit her son-in-law and daughter, Commander and Mrs David Bush, who returned yesterday from England. Mr Rattray left Christchurch for Dunedin yesterday. Dr." Mary Alexander (Edinburgh), who has been staying with Mrs Wickenden, Armagh street, Jsft yesterday with Miss Elaine Wickenden to spend a few days at the Franz Josef Glacier. On her return she will be the guest of Mrs A. W. Beaven, Redcliffs. Johnson (Sandhurst, Waikari) is spending a fortnight m Dunedin, where she will be the guest of her aunt, S. Webster, Heriot Row. Mrs M. M. Mason (Church lane, Merivale) will leave next week to visit relatives in Melbourne and Sydney. Miss Alice Blakeley (Clifton, Waikari), who has been visiting Christchurch, has returned home. Miss Mona Nicol (Picton) is at present the guest of Mrs C. J. Treleaven, St. Andrew's square. Mr and Mrs R.' Bishop (Napier) will celebrate to-day the diamond jubilee of their - wedding. Their sop, Mr ft..A, Bishop (New Brighton); left on Monday evening for the North Island to be present on the occasion. ' Mr and Mrs E. N. Ussher (Sumner), who have been visiting their son in Gore, were the guests of Mr and Miss Hazel Cuttuss. They are now spending a few days in Balclutha before going to Dunedin. They are the guests of Mr and Mrs W, D. Hutchins. The engagement is announced of Major James Alexander Macdonald, D.5.0., M.C., of Kenya Colony, and Georgina Fredfirlca, second daughter of the late Mr and Mrs C. N. Orbell, of Levels, South Canterbury. The women's auxiliary of No. 1 group working for the Metropolitan Queen Carnival will be in charge of sweets, cajces, and delicatessen stalls in the south tram shelter, near the Post Office, on Friday, commencing at 9 o'clock.
