WARNINGS ISSUED
—♦ — ABUSE OF WEEKLY TRAM PASSES
MEETING OF BOARD I Warnings have been issued to four persons who have been detected wrongfully using the non-transferable weekly passes on the trams, the works and traffic committee reported to the Christchurch Tramway Board yesterday. The passes, it was emphasised, are available for use only by the purchaser, whose name appears on the ticket. There were present: Messrs J. K. Archer (chairman), E. J. Howard, M.P., J. Mathison, G. Manning, W. J. Walter, E. Parlane, G. T. Thurston, and B. M. Macfarlane. Because of complaints about the frequency of stops in Colombo street south, the committee decided to eliminate the stop at pole No. 88 between Tennyson street and Devon street, and to consider further alterations. The committee had the seats of one Papanui-Hills tram upholstered as an experiment, and had now decided to proceed with this improvement to a further 10 cars at a cost of £53 each. The lifting and packing of the Colombo street track, with the exception of top-dressing, had now been completed. The men were now engaged on North parade, removing sleepers and one rail.. The other rail was buried as a negative return for trolleybuses. It had been decided to lift and pack the rails between poles five and 38, in Antigua street, at an estimated cost of £3640. Public accidents during August were as follows: —Collisions with motorcars and trucks, 10; collision with cyclist, 1; alighting from stationary tram, 1; alighting from moving tram, 1; miscellaneous, 1; total, 14.
