Figures showing the improvement in trade that has taken place during the last two years were given by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister for' Finance, at the annual smoke concert of the Wellington Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association to-night. The comparison was made between the years 1931-32 and 1933-34, except that the building permits were for 1932-33 and 193435, share prices for 1932 and 1934, and the Post Office Savings Bank returns up to the end of these ysars:— The figures (all millions) were as follows: . 1931-32. 1933-34. Total production .. 83.6 Farm production .. 49.2 63.6 Exports ;. 33.9 44.9 Imports .. 24.7 34.3 Building permits .. 2.1 3.1 Post Office Savings Bank .. 42.0 49.0 Share prices (basis 1000) .. 703 957 "These figures indicate pretty clearly an improvement in trade," said Mr Coates, "and the latest figures also suggest that the value of manufactured goods for 1934-35 is likely to be 10 to 15 per cent, higher, than for the previous year, while there are strong hopss that prices for exports will be higher during the forthcoming season.''
