KAIKOURA NEWS

ROADS CLEAR The blockage caused by excess rainwater at Hog's swamp near Siddon, on the main highway to Blenheim, has been cleared. The inland WaiaU road was still blocked for traffic. The main stream on this route, the Conway river, carrying a large body of water and being unbridged, presents difficulties in fording. Yesterday on the Main South road to Christchurch water was still in Stoney creek, three miles south of Kaikoura, and also in the Ferniehurst creek near the Conway river 30 miles south of Kaikoura. Both streams required care in crossing. The road generally has escaped my serious damage by large slips, which was fortunate considering the heavy rainfall. A three-span concrete bridge is now being constructed over the Stoney creek, and a tender has also been let for building a concrete bridge over the Ferniehurst creek. The flood water did not materially damage the bridges at present under construction. Workers' Educational Association . The weekly meeting of the Kaikoura branch of the Workers' Educational Association was held at the home of Mr and Mrs W. R. Teape, the evening being spent with the reading of three one-act plays. Mrs W. G. Todd was the leader. Next week's meeting will be,held on Tuesday evening at the bogus Qj Mr and Mrs P. Burgoyas..
