SPEED OF FIRE ENGINES

TO TEE IDITOB 07 THE PSMS. Sir,—This morning at 10 o'clock the fire engine came through the Square at an excessive speed, and very narrowly missed a council cart at the Armagh street crossing, at the same time nearly unshipping some of the crew and turning the fire engine over; a word of praise should be given the driver of the engine for his skill in averting a disaster. Why was the siren not operating in this locality? The question is, should the fire engine be allowed to come through the Square and this congested area, and if so, should there not be a limit to the speed?— Yours, etc., VIGILANCE. September 10, 1935. [This letter was shown to Superintendent C. C. Warner, who had no comment to make.]
