DORCAS SOCIETY
♦ The Rev. L. A. North presided at the annual meeting of the Dorcas Society of he Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, held in the schoolroom. During the social hour, items were given by Mesdames Stallard and Windsor and Miss M. Hatherley. The forty-eighth annual report stated tha the Work of the society had gone on steadily with little or no variety, except that different people were helped each mon h. A peep into each of the homes so helped had been given by Miss Gainsford, who also told of the cause of the misfortune, which might be sickness, old age, a mother losing her husband and being lef to battle for her family, or the inability o relief workers to provide necessary clothing for their children. The death had been recorded of a .fellow-member, Mrs Claxton, who had been greatly missed from the sewing meetings, and regret was expressed at the depar ure of Mrs A. W. Stuart for her new home in Sydney. Mrs T. E. Tonrycliffe (Gisborne), who is still regarded as one of the society's members, had continued her financial interest in the society. Miss Boyd, a blind member, had knitted many garments for children, and she was sincerely hanked for her continued assistance, and a special tribute was paid to Miss Gainsford for her cooperation. The report of the mothers' meeting was also presented, and stated 'hat ths roll number was 67, with an average attendance of 44. Sympathy was recorded with two members, Mrs Langran and Mrs'Gibb. both of whom had suffered bereavements.
Gra itude was expressed to Mrs Langran. a leader, who had given much assistance to members, and it was with great regret that members heard of her retirement, /n anonymous friend had again shown his interest and sympa hy with the work, and had sent his annual gift of a roll of flannel, which had been greatly apnreciated.
Special thanks were expressed to the society's cutters. Mesdames Hueson, Holland, Dutch, and Green, who had so willing"y given their time in cutting out garments, to the treasurer, and to the tea cemmi tee, Mesdames Holland, Coulsen, and Miss M. Sheate.
During the year 31 families, representing 95 persons, had been helped, and 302 garments had been made and given away. Of these garments 96 . ad been sent to Manurewa Children's Heme, 10 patchwork quilts, made by members, had been given away, and 14 yards of material had been distributed to people who could make garments for th mselves.

Mesdames H. Holland, F. E. Hueston. M. A. Dutch, and A. Green; buyer. Mrs G. Reddell; committee. Mesdames E. A. Sheate and W. W. Stewart: lead'rs of mo hers' meeting, Mesdames T. W. Voller and V. Sim; tea committee. Miss M. Sheate, Mesdames T. W. Coulsen and C. F. Jones.
