FARMER BREAKS LEG DRAGGED THROUGH HARROWS (SPECIAL TO THB P*E93.t BLENHEIM. August 28. Mr L. C. Holdaway, Lower Wairau, broke a leg yesterday while harrowing a piece of land. He was sitting on a board laid across the ton of the implement, and when the team went through a hollow, the board slioned and Holdaway fell, r being dragged through the harrows. He was takcQ to the Stafford Hospital, where he is progressing favourably. Heavy Wind An exceptionally heavy north-west-erly wind, of gale force, blew all day. , Clouds of dust from the Wairau riverbed swept down the valley. No damage was reported excepting that some trees were blown down. Personal The Rev. J. D. C. Madill (Blenheim), the Rev. Robert Crockett (Seddon), and Messrs C. F. A. Whiteford (Blenheim), and F. W. Marshall (Renwick) have left for Nelson to attend the quarterly meeting of the Nelson-Marl-borough Presbytery. Hockey Representatives The Marlborough women's representative hcckey team has left for Gisborne, _ where it will compete in the Dominion tournament. Those making the trip are Misses N. Sutherland. W. N. and E. Woolley, F. and R. Drake, L Wratt, M. and A. Wareham. B. Mills, Z. Heffer, R. Jellyman, M. Smith, M. Norton, and Mrs Workman. Mr A. Innes, secretary of the Marlborough Hockey Association, accompanied tae team as manager, and Mrs A. Innei as chaperon. Basketball Team The Marlborough basketball representative team also left by the Tamahine for Wellington to compete in the New Zealand tournament, the players making the trip being Misses M. Gleeson (captain), H. Wanden (vice-cap* tam),D. Kennedy. E. Gifford, N. Douglas, C. Wilson, B. Mac Donald, L. Robinson,, R. Gifford. F. Squire. D. Cos?i nd L " Parkes - Mrs H. J. S. Mitchell accompanied the team as chaperon.
