Reid, who has been appointed a Magistrate for Christchurch, was sworn in as a Magistrate, a Justice of the; Peace, and a Coroner, by Mr T. E. MaunsJl, S.M. Before the sitting of the Magistrate's Court was resumed yesterday afternoon members of the Jegal profession and representatives of the Justice Department took the opportunity of saying good-bye to Mr Reid. v The ceremony was held in the witnesses' room at the Courthouse, In the evening a dinner was given to Mr ftcid by members of the legal profession, head:; of Government departments, the Mo. t,;'ago:s' Adjustment Commissi i, and the managers of the local ban'is and mercantile flrtns. Mr A. C, Nathan, a s president of the Lav/ Society, presided. Mr Reid wus presented with a .suitcase by the chairman on behalf of members of the legal profession. Later in the evening Mr and Mrs Reid were the guests of the Marlborough Golf Club at a dance held at the . Masonic HalL During the evening Mr ! and Mra Reid were presented with a silver tea service and salver.
