THE WEATHER

After a very light shower in the morning the. weather in Christchurch yesterday was bright and sunny, but the temperature wa3 kept down by a slight south-west breeze. There was a frost of 6.1 degrees in the morning, and the maximum temperature during the day was 44.3 degrees. After rising to 29.6 in by midday, the barometer remained steady. Wellington—Light showers fell before 9 a.m.; but the weather rapialy improved, and was fine and sunny for the rest of the day. A light southerly ' breeze, blew, dying away to a calm during the afternoon. The minimum temperature during Thursday night ' was 39.0 degrees. The maximum yesterday was 46.0 degrees, and at 4 p.m. it was 41.9 uflgrees. Dunedin*-A, light easterly breeze blew, and Xte weather was fine and sunny yesterday. After the heaviest frost of the season the thermometer registered 24 degrees at 4 a.m., and 30 degrees at 8 a.m. The maximum temperature for the day was 46 degrees. wards, but a slight westerly depi"ession .s now advancing on to southern New Zealand. An a..ti-cyclone covers eastern Australia, and extends on to the northern Ta3man Sea.

Winds—Moderate but freshening, westerly to south-westerly. , Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough on parts of the West Coast and between Cook Strait and the East Cape; otherwise moderate.

Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to fresh winds, between west and southwest, prevailing, with moderate to rather rough sea 3.

Weather—Changeable, with scattered showers, but mainly in districts with a westerly aspect, and the far north and south.
