REMANDED FOR SENTENCE

In the Supreme Court to-day, Henry Horace Smith, who had pleaded not guilty in the lower court, admitted stealing goods valued at frotn Furness's shop at Miramar, and was remanded till Friday for sentence. James Hopkins, who also hacl pleaded not guilty in the lower court, admitted charges of assa It and robbery while armed. This was the case in which Hopkins was alleged to have assaulted and robbed Johanna Byrne and Joseph Byrne at their home in Tinakori road, while armed with an automatic pistol. To the Chief Justice fthe 'lit; Hon. Sir Michael Myers) counsel said he proposed to lead certain evidence about the man's good character. He also wished to put before his Honour something dealing with his war record. He was not putting forward that the prisoner was mentally weak, A made until Friday for sentence.
