Tlie result was caused by Surrey attempting to win outright, and Lancashire managed to make the runs very easily, thanks to a fine Linings by Washbrook. Holmes and Sandham, the great Surrey pair, were. again prominent. Kent won a very exciting match against Middlesex by five runs. Both are well up in the championship. The inimitable Freeman, the slow bowler, snatched the victory by taking six wickets in the second innings. Bakewell, the former test batsman, put up one of the most remarkable performances of the season In making Ml out of 139 in the second innings for Northants, Even this courageous effort was not enough, as Worcester, after making only 93 in the first innings, won by 30 runs.
The most interesting match of the round in the championship top marks was thrt between Notts and Yorkshire. Yorkshire did not have a loss until well into the season, while Notts started uncertainly. In this round Notts beat Yorkshire on the first innings. Larwood took four wickets for 71 for Notts to assist greatly in Notts'u victory. Dacre, the former New Z calender, made 59 for Gloucestershire,* but the county was beaten by the very consistent Derbyshire, which is well in the running for the championship honour. Generrlly speaking, the round produced better batting results Inan any of recent date. (I.'MTEB ME3S ASSOCI-WION- -COI'TKIGIIT.t LONDON, July 23. County cricket matches resulted as follows: Surrey v.
