TECHNICAL COLLEGE BOARD

MANUFACTURERS SEEK FULL REPRESENTATION Dissatisfaction with the Canterbury . Manufacturers' Association's representation on the Technical College Board of Governors was expressed at a meeting of the executive of the association last night. The association with several other organisations, has two representatives on the board, but it was claimed that the association should have representation on its ovv.i behalf. It was decided that, if necessary, a deputation should approach the board with a request that it alter its constitution to allow the association direct representation. ■ The discussion arose w .en a letter was received from the board advising that Mr K. E. England would rej tire as one of the representatives of the I association of employers, and a nomination was requested. The Canterbury Employers' Association also wrote, asking that the manufacturers support Mr England's nomination *as a representative of both "bodies. Mr A. M. Hollander suggested that the manufacturers had no real representation on the board. H£ thought the manufacturers were a sufficiently large * body to be represented on the board as it was on the Chamber of Commerce and the Canterbury Progress League. The association was deeply Interested in technical education, and should ,be directly represented. In supporting Mr Hollander, F. L. Hutchinson said that industry and the Technical College went hand in hand, and it was desirable that i£c manufacturers should/have one of its association on the board. Mr S. Wright declared that the manufacturers' associatioi was more competent to appoint a representative on the bosrrf than the Employers' Association was. On the motion of Mr D. V. Wilson, the nomination of Mr C. S. McCully for membership on the board was supported, and it was decided to write to th • Employers' Association apd the board setting out the views of the manufacturers.
