There were large congregations at St. Paul's Church yesterday, when services were conducted by the Rev. J. H. Haslam, the "president of the Methodist Conference. A civic service was held in the morning, attended by the Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry) and borough councillors. In the evening a sacred cantata was given by the choir, the soloists being Mrs Findlay, Misses E. Knight and Taylor, Mr Qilchrist and the Rev. Allon Carr. As part of the celebrations a queen carnival has been conducted and.the crowning of the queen will take place oil' Tuesday evening. . Basketball During the week-end Mrs H. D. Muir, Dominion president of the Basketball Association, was in Hokitika, where she delivered an address to those interested in the sport. This afternoon Mrs-Muir visited the Hokitika District High School and gave the girls some coaching hints. Football Kesults The Excelsior Football Club visited South Westland during the week-end and played two matches. At Hokitika the visitors were beaten by 8 to 0. At a dance in the evening Mr McDonald made a presentation to Mr Ron King. The Wataroa game was also lost, the score being 3 to 0,
