The Weather After a heavy fog and light, misty rain on Monday, the weather in Kaikoura yesterday was dull, with a fog over the coastal areas. Inland, the day was much brighter. With the rainfall total for the year still very much below that for the same period last year, rain is badly needed in the Kaikoura district, although the position is not nearly so serious, nor ts the need for rain so urgent as in the earlier part of the year, In the township itself, the lack of rain has caused some inconvenience to those relying on tanks for their water, and pastures on farms are much drier than they should be for the time of the year. August, however, is usually a month of high rainfall, and if it maintains that reputation this year, the outlook for farmers should be made very much brighter.
