PRESENTATIONS AT FENDALTON
MISS M. M. POLLARD AND MB A. E. BRYNE "Fendalton has been very fortunate in its school committees, and Mr Byrne is one of the type of professional men who have done so much good work for the school," said the headmaster, Mr A. R. Blank, yesterduy afternoon. On behalf of the pupils he presented Mr A. E. Byrne, a member of the school committee for the last 14 years, with a smoker's stand. Mr Byrne has served on the committee as secretary for eight years, and was also chairman for a term, and the opportunity of making the presentation was taken while the pupils were assembled to bid farewell to Miss M. M. Pollard, the music specialist, whose marriage will take place next week. •Mr Blank referred to the great service Mr Byrne had given the school, and said that, although he was a busy man, he gave much of his time to the school, and considered the happiness of the children to be sufficient reward for his efforts. "Mr Byrne and his fellow committeemen have faced some severe bodylJne bowline during recent years," Mr Blank concluded, "but so far there have been no casualties." The headmaster spoke of the excellent work Miss Pollard had done, and said that, beside her own class, she had taken the music and singing of the whole school. He presented her with a silver entree (Jish suitably inscribed, on behalf of the staff and pupils of the Fendalton Open Air School. Mr Byrne and the secretary, Mr F. Penlington, also spoke in praise of Miss Pollard's work, and referred to the happy relations existing between her and her pupils. Mr Byrne presented her with a clock on behalf of the committee. Miss Pollard and Mr Byrne suitably replied after the presentations.
