DEMOCRATIC POLITICAL PARTY
to rat editob or ran pii*s?s Sir,—Will Mr A. E. Davy, whom you report, to be at present in Christchurch, to organise the Dcrnoci. at'u.. party, kindly 3«pply Canterbury electors with a straight-out answer to the following questions:— !I) Will it be one of the airn.a of his party, if it obtains a working majority, to abolish the sliding scale of duties on wheat? (2) Does the party include among its originators and-'or backers, -ome North "island merchants who have amassed huge profits from the sale of wheat to poultry farmer:; and then endeavoured f.o hide the fact by thro—ing the blame for the excessive cost on to the wheat grower? If Mr D'-vy cannot answer these questions satisfactorily, he. may just as well save his party the time and expanse of attempting to further its interests' anywhere in the South Island.—Yours, etc., EN QUIRING ELECTOR. June 28, 1935. [Commenting on this letter Mr Davy said: "I reply to question (1) of 'Enquiring Elector': the policy of the Democrat party will be announced in due course and our candidates in Canterbury will give 'Enquiring Elector' all the opportunity he requires to ask questions concerning the wheat duties. Question (2). This contains a small question and a large statement, the former impertinent, and the latter untrue. Regarding 'Enquiring Elector's' last paragraph, the electors in the South Island will decide for themselves for whom they will vote, and I suggest their sense of fair play will prevent their judgment being warped by political sharpshooters."! MR DAVY'S MISSION to ru» Bonos or tub passs Sir,—ln the Mr Davy who has arrived from Wellington the same Mr Davy who organised the 1925 70 million loan eleclion? Surely not! Or is he the same Mr Davy who came down hot-footed in 1933 to organise Mr Freeman. Ah me! Times change, perhaps Mr Davy changes, too, who | knows? —Yours, etc., I CRT? reus. ! June 27, 1.93!j.
