FRIDAY (Before Mr E. C. Lewey, S.M.) THREE' MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT Frederick Seelen, aged 66, a street musician, appeared for sentence on a conviction of being idle and disorderly, in that he had insufficient lawful visible means of support. Last week, when Seelen was convicted, he was ordered to come up for sentence within two years, a condition of good behaviour being that he should become an inmate of the Tuarangi Home at Ashburton. This he failed to do, and yesterday he was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour, THEFT OF 10 BICYCLES The theft of 10 bicycles was admitted by lan Ernest Williamson, aged 19. a labourer. The total value of the ■ stolen machines was £24 15s. Willinm- ! son was admitted to probation for ' three years. 5 Sub-Inspector D. L. Calwell said that J Williamson was arrested last week on j one charge of stealing a bicycle. He ; then admitted the theft of other j bicycles. In all. he stole 12. but two :of these had not been reported as i stolen, and the owners could not be : traced The owners of eight bicycles I had been found. Restitution of £7 7s | Gd had to be made. i Calwell added that Williamson stole i only old and out-of-condition machines as thev were vnore difficult to trace. ! The probation officer, in reply to a j question by the magistrate, said that | to send Williamson to gaol would do | no good. , In admitting Williamson to probaI tion, the magistrate ordered him to ; make restitution. i THEFT ALLEGED j A salesman, aged 21. whose name i was suppressed, was remanded to apj pear on July 4 on a charge of stealjmg an. overcoat valued at £3 Is 6d. Accused was represented by Mr H. S J. Goodman. It was stated that accused had been arrested only the previous evening and several other charges were pending. Accused had been stealing from his employers over a long period. The coat valued at £3 Is Gd was sold to a second-hand dealer for ss. Mr Goodman, in pressing for Ei;ppre.i.iion of accused's name, assured the court that his client would make a full disclosure. Accused was remanded on bail. TRAFFIC CONVICTIONS For driving a motor-car without having a license, Thomas Caldwell was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. George Stanley Flint, for cycling at night without a light, was ordered to pay costs. For driving negligently, John Ernest Morgan was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs. George Henry Cecil De Boyett, for failing to keep to the left, was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. For driving in n dangerous manner, Robert Mcllroy Ferris was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs.
