The German Army to-day totals more than 1,000,000 men, said Colonel Fabry (Minister for War) at j a meeting of the Finance Commission, asking for supplementary army credits of £8,000,000. He added: "The most extraordinary thing is that the Germans have outstripped us in heavy artillery, which did not exist two years ago. ,; [A message printed yesterday stated that the French Government proposed to ask Parliament immediately for £2,700,000 for naval construction.] MORE EMPLOYMENT •IN BRITAIN EEST RETURN FOR FIVE YEARS EXPECTED (Received June 27, 8.51 p.m.) LONDON. June 27. The "Daily Express" says official figures which will be published soon are expected to show that unemployment is below the 2,000,000 mark for the first time since July 21, 1030. RETAIL TRADE SHOWS IMPROVEMENT (nnmsll OKFICIAI. Vv'IHEI.KS?;.) (Received June 27, 8.5 p.m.) RUGBY, June 2G. The value of retail trade sales in May, 1935, was 2.2 per cent, greater than in May, 1934. Stocks at the end of May, 1935, were 0.1 per cent, less in value than at the end of May, 1934. Employment was 1.5 per cent, higher. FEWER UNEMPLOYED IN CANADA OTTAWA, June 26. The Dominion Eureau of Statistics reports that there were 22,000 fewer unemployed in Canada at June 1 than there were a year ago.
