PROVISION OF RELIEF WORK
♦ DISCISSION BY COMMITTEE OF FARMERS' UNION The provision of useful work for the unemployed was discussed at a meeting ef a sub-committee of the North Canterbury district executive of the Farmers' Union yesterday. Mr G. C. Warren presided. It was resolved that recommendations be made in the proper quarter that certain useful works "be commenced immediately. It was also resolved "That while this committee realises that much has been done Joy the Unemployment Board in endeavouring to cope with a'difficult situation, it feels that there is scope for work which should be commenced immediately, but which cannot be undertaken until economic recovery is well on the way unless it is classed as relief work." It, was decided to issue immediately a circular appeal to branches to worfc in conjunction with the women's organisations in arranging a drive for produce and goods for the reljef of distress in the city. Mr Warren said that the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan. M.P.) had informed him that he would keep in touch with the appeal.
