SUMMONS ISSUED
O BKEACII OF RICCARTON BY-LAWS The Riccarton Borough Council lias issued a summons on a member of the Master Butchers' Association for a breach of the by-laws governing the hours for the droving of stock in the borough. The association intends to fight the case, which will come up for hearing next month. The association has for many months claimed that the present by-law, which does not permit the droving of stock from the yards before 4 p.m., is unreasonable. It lias offered to give a demonstration of what happens when sheep and lambs are removed at an earlier hour, and in recent months its member's have intentionally broken the by-law. After five weeks the borough inspector was present and observed the breach of the by-law. The prosecution is the result of his observations.
