MILK FOR CHILDREN
10 TSfS EDITOS 0* THE PI'.KSS. Sir—Dr. McLaglen's interesting comments on the value of milk for children should not be ignored. If every child could be given that very necessary half-pint of milk daily it. would he an invaluable boon, and would give them a good start in life as l'ar nr< nutrition i.> concerned. f was in Tnvercargili recently, and was shown ever the Genera! Hospital
It was overflowing with adult patients, but I was surprised to see only three or four children. This was most unusual for a hospital of that size. When I commented on this to the medical superintendent he said that it was probably due to the fact that milk was given out in all the schools. I made enquiries and found that the different bodies—City Council, Harbour Board, etc.-—contributed. Is it not possible to have a similar arrangement here? We could then be assured that the workers of the community were receiving a start in life. I am afraid that the sickness among the wealthier classes is due to too much food.—Yours, etc., M.D. June 20, 1935.
