The Press Junior THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 1935. A Year's Work
"The Press Junior" Volume 2, number 25, to-day's issue, marks the end of our first year of existence. There have now been 52 issues of this supplement. Next Friday, July 5, is actually the first birthday of "The Press Junior," the date upon which, a year ago, Christchurch children first read these pages. Within a week of that day more than a thousand boys and girls had sent in their names for badges ct membership; these names were all written in a large ledger book. Readers may be interested to know that we have had to add pages to this book and that we shall be glad to begin a new book next week; for we now have more than 10,000 names written in it. Those who have not already written in to us for badges may do so at any time; new names will be entered in the new book for the second year in the life of "The Press Junior." In an article in the first issue it was pointed out that "The Press Junior" is produced especially for the boys and girls of Canterbury and Westland and other provinces where "The Press" is read. This is still the case; "The Press Junior" is our readers' own newspaper and we want them to continue to read and enjoy it. Readers write in from time to time asking for information, on special subjects; this information we gather and recount as fully as possible and as soon as possible after the request is received. Other readers send in contributions in verse or prose; the only condition we make about these contributions is: they must be original. We cannot print material taken from books, newspapers or magazines. We pay for contributions that we accept, but we cannot accept any .that are not wholly original. From time to time we have discontinued certain of our series of articles to make room for new ones. For instance, we have had a long gap in our "Man-Made Birds" articles, but we hope to begin these again in a fortnight. The articles dealing with the various trees in the gardens in Christchurch will be discontinued for a few months and new sets of articles will be introduced during that period. We are anxious to know which articles are most popular with our readers and we shall be glad to introduce new series of articles dealing with subjects of particular interest to various groups of t7aders. From Saturday, July 6, Lady Gay will have a page for the Sunbeams and Shipmates, vounger brothers and sisters S C Jaderfof "The Press Junior" Sj Svhe Press" each week. Lady race will appear each 2§£day and "The Press Junior" S as usual. We hope S?JJStJo Special productions ggj yw™** leaders -
