LOWER RATES
LEVY IN RICCARTON } BOROUGH -l The Riccarton Borough Council' agreed at its meeting last evening to strike a rate of 2£d in the £ on '. the unimproved value. This rate was ' l-8d lower than the rate last year and a penny lower than the rate in 1929-30.
A report submitted by the financed and by-laws committee showed that |; the rates had been reduced since "i 1929-30 as follows: . i Ami Year. Rate in £. S. S. Kyle, M.P., said it was very satisfactory to know that the council had been able to make a reduction. It had had to spend £250 on a road roller and £750 on Riccar- . ton avenue last year, and although . it had not these expenses this year, it had set aside £SOO for metalling and tar-segling. There was also a suggestion for widening Mandeville street". He mentioned that some local ' bodies such as the Drainage Board had increased their rates this year.
