form and Travelling Agent. Stanchion led at the last fence, and was challenged by Travelling Agent and Biform, Travelling Agent winning by a length and a half from Biform. Stanchion was a similar distance away third, and Booklaw was fourth, followed by Black Marlin, Chang, and King's Archer. Travelling Agent is an improver, who should soon win again. Stanchion made his run a trifle early, and weakened in the last little bit. Biform was staying on strongly, and should be improved by his racing a» the meeting. Val Watch failed in the straight. Success for Silver Brier

It was with a fine finishing run that Silver Brier got up to win the second division of the Hangatiki Hack Handicap at ciouble figures. Grand Score and Gloucester put a brt-ak on the Held, ir. the first few furlongs, and led into the straight from Solomon, Mungarrc. Wahine Heihi, and Gay Egypt. The leaders were tiring at the distance, and just when Gay Egypt, who went up on the inside, looked like winning, Stiver Brier appeared on the outside with a brilliant burst and won by threeparts of a length. Grand Score was a length and a half away, and Solo Song was fourth. The next to finish were Merry Lap. Gloucester, and Trouvaille. Silver Brier finished brilliantly from a long wav back. Gay Egypt and Grand Score ran good races the latter just failing in tne last half furlong after making all the pace. The favourite. High Tea, began well, but lost his position early and was never afterwards dangerous.

Favourite Beaten The win favourite. Engi, made a good attempt to win the Waitomo Handicap, but he was defeated by the improving Tybalt. Scotland reached the front quickly from Wait and See, Sinking Fund. Engi, and Lord Val. Scotland and Wait and See were together in the lead entering the straight from Engi, Lord Val, Baroscope, and Tybalt. In a good race home Tybalt finished strongly to score by half a length from Engi, with Musquil a length away third. Mercian Prince was right up fourth, succeeded by Delraln, Wait and See. and Arawa Rose, who went a good race after getting badly away. Tybalt registered a good performance, finishing very strongly. Engi just failed near the end. Musquil and Mercian Prince were both finishing on after being a long way back early. Mercian Prince may have been a little closer only for being slightly checked in the straight. Lord Val had a winning chance at the distance, but then failed. It was his first, race for .some months' and the run should do him good.

Riotous Again Only two of the six runners completed the course safely in the Kawhia Steeplechase. Riotous and Mia Stella made most of the running, Riotous being in front commencing the last five furlongs, with Royal Limond challenging strongly. Riotous jumped away from Royal Limond at the last few fences and he landed just clear at the last obstacle to go on and win by two lengths. Ruby Meteor unseated her rider about seven furlongs from home, while Mia Stella and Valpeen both came to grief at the second to last fence, and Silver Division was pulled up after baulking at the sod wall entering the straight. Valpeen, who \vas remounted by his owner, was taken back to jump the final fence and gained third money. Riotous was assisted to victory by his splendid jumping. Royal Limond made a game effort, responding well to vigorous riding. A Close Finish The fourth fancy, Princess Star, was successful in a good finish in the Mairoa Handicap. Gay Seton was smartest away, but was soon headed by King Ford, with Star Artist and Princess Star handy. King Ford and Princess Star were the leaders into the straight from Gay Seton and Hampton Park, with Orapai last. Princess Star stayed on solidly under pressure and scored by a length from Gay Seton. Orapai finished fast to get third a neck away, and King Ford was fourth, followed by British Columbia and Exaggeration. Princess Star again showed her liking for heavy going. Gay Seton had every chance. Orapai ran on splendidly at the end.

Another Big Dividend Lady Zinnia was responsible for a surprise in the Farewell Hack Handicap. She ran up second behind Tutor entering the straight and outstayed him to score by a length. Keith Lu, who was tailed off early, finished fast into third position, and Holly Lu was fourth. The each way favourite, Green Patch, was never dangerous. Snow Lap lost his rider at the start.
