OBITUARY

MR C. J. KNIGHT The death occurred suddenly last week of Mr Charles James Knight, of Templeton. Mr Knight, who was born in :o County of Warwickshire, joined the Fourth Hussars at an eariy age, and later came to New Zealand, joining the artillery branch of the New Zealand Permanent Forces. Several years later, in 1890, he was transferred to the Prisons Department, ana was lor some years superintendent of the Papurua Prison. He took u keen interest in the welfare of the Templeton dislrict, and had been for 10 years a member of ihe Templeton Domain Committee. At his death he was secretary of the Templeton. Croquet Club, a position which he had heid for 10 years. He was also lor 10 years a member (if the committee of the Templeton Public Library, and he was also an active member of the Hornby Howling Club. Mr Knight was also a keen supporter of other clubs in the Templeton district. His wife predeceased him live years ago, and he is survived by one son, Mr C. Knight, of Templeton, and one daughter, Mrs Wallace, of Auckland. One son was killed in the Great War.

The burial .service at the Teinpleton Anglican cemetery was conducted by the Rev. H. Jones, and the pull-bearers were warders of the Paparua Prison. There way a large attendance, including relatives and friends, and the representatives cl various Government departments. Many beautiful wreaths wore sent.

MR A. CHRISTIE GORE. May :>5. The death has occurred of Mr Alexander Christie, of Waikaia, who was born in 1845. He was a well-known runholdcr and pioneer, and landed in the Dominion in IBSG.

DR. P. J. CLUNK . PERTH, May 25. The death has occurred of Dr. Patrick Joseph Clune, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Perth. [The Most Rev. Patrick Joseph Clune, Archbishop of Perth, was born in Ireland in 1864, and educated in Dublin. He was ordained priest in 1886, and was secular priest of the Goulburn diocese from 1880 to 1893. After a period as a missioner in Ireland he returned to Australia in 189!), after which he was Superior of lied"inptorist Houses at Wellington, New Zeaiand, and Perth. He was consecrated Bishop of Perth in 1911, and was the first archbishop on the raising of the See to metropolitan ran!;, in 1913.1
