NEGOTIATIONS FOR TRADE TREATY
AUSTRALIAN MINISTER'S STAFF CANBERRA, May 10. The Minister for Customs (Mr T. W. White), who will leave Sydney on May 21 for Wellington to Undertake negotiations with the New Zealand Government for a new trade agreement with Australia, will be accompanied by the Comptroller-General of Customs (Mr E. Abbott), an officer from the trade treaties branch of the Customs Department, and an officer of the Commerce Department. Mr White will be in New Zealand for about a fortnight. TATTERSALL'S HORSE SALE STRONG DEMAND FOK DRAUGHTS There was a total entry of 34 horses forward for Matson's monthly sale yesterday. Of these 25 changed hands. There was a good attendance of the public, including some keen buyers for the best farm horses. Several country consignments were on offer, comprising handy and weighty farm workers. There were a few lighter sorts and a small supply of rough, worn-out horses from local sources. Weighty farm mares and geldings, five to seven years, made £33 to £43, good farm horses from seven to 10 years old, £lB to £23; small farm workers, aged, £l2 to £l7; handy spring cart sorts, from £ls to £lB, with a few rough, aged, and light sorts at low prices. The following were the principal sales: — Draughts—Six-year-old mare £43, six-year-old chestnut mare £34, bay gelding (fiveyears) £3llos, bay gelding (six years) £25 10s, bay mare (five years) £2O, bay mare. Jean (10 years) £lB, bay mare £29. Light Horses Five-year-old gig horse £7, gray pony £4, bay pony £1 7s 6d, bay gelding £9, aged gelding £9, bay gelding (chain worker) £l3. thoroughbred gelding (two years, by Rapier, dam Kubong) £ll lis, aged gelding £l2 10s, bay mare £5 10s. Gigs—Gigs sold from £2 to £B.
