SHOULD THE CHURCHES ADVERTISE?

At u meeting of the Royal United Services Institution recently, held in London, Mr Shauti Patrick O'Connor gave an address on "The Church and Advertising," during which he advocated a modern, practical, and understandable appeal to the people. As an instrument to draw people to the churches, advertising was not tinworthy, worldly, or unchristian. "The force which has built hospitals," he said, "raised armies, built up national finrnce, improved sanitation and housing widened the use of the telephone and transport facilities, is strong enough and good enough to bring people to church. Myriads of eager foosteps would ba turned towards our churches and chapels." The churches should certainly enter upon a united campaign of public advertising to attract the interest and sympathies of the public.
