Barrell) and staff of the Lyttelton District High School entertained Miss M. A. Moyle, senior secondary assistant mistress, at morning* lea yesterday on the occasion of her leaving the staff to be married. Mips J. M. Mcintosh and Mr H. W. D. Blake spoke of their long association with Miss Moyle, and Mr Barrell, on behalf of the staff, presented the guest with a tea and dinner service. Miss Moyle thanked the teachers for their gift, and said she hoped to keep in touch with the school. Municipal Election The official count of the votes recorded in the Lyttelton muncipal election has been completed, and the result is advertised in this issue. There is practically no change in the figures from those announced on the night of the poll, the principal alteration being that the Labour party candidate, Mr J. D. Sargentina, has gained five votes. Harbour Light Theatre "The Thin Man," one of the most exciting and entertaining mystery dramas ever filmed, will be presented at the Harbour Light Theatre this afternoon and evening, and on Monday evening. The solution of the mystery is a baffling one, and is only revealed at the end by William Powell, as Nick Charles, the detective. Others in the cast are Myrna Loy, Maureen O'Sullivan, and Minna Gombell. The short subjects include a Pete Smith special, a colour novelty, and a newsreel. Jubilee Celebrations The celebrations arranged by the Lyttelton Borough Council and the Lyttelton Harbour Board for the King's Silver Jubilee concluded yesterday with a fancy-dress parade in the afternoon and a display of fireworks in the evening. More than 100 children took part in the fancy dress parade, and there was a large number of spectators. The children assembled in the grounds of the Lyttelton District High School, where the judging took place, and afterwards marched in procession through the streets. Each child received a gift of a flag, also fruit and sweets. The costumes were judged by Mesdames B. H. Gilmour and S. Edgar, and prizes were awarded as follows: Best fancy costume, Alice Hardwicke (Jubilee Queen), Donald Stewart (Captain E. F. Scott); most novel costume, Len Hanley (Empty Boxes), Ngaire Miller (Fisn); cheapest costume, Evison Beaumont (Leaves), Irene Garner (Newspaper); special prizes, John Rudd (Clock), Jean Veale (Reckitt's Blue), Pam Gilder (Nurse); Lyttelton Plunket Society's special prize for representation of a Karitane nurse, Camille Donahoe; decorated perambulators, Mary Smith (Poppy), Helen Smith (Britannia), Riith Neil: decorated tri 7 cycles, Barry Taylor (Phantom of the Air), Molly Le Comte (Red, White, and Blue). The fireworks display was made from the Gladstone pier, and commenced with a water display, illuminated by coloured flares. This was followed by the' firing of numerous j rockets and bombs and of two set pieces. At the conclusion of the display, the chairman of the Harbour Board, Mr E. J. Howard, M.P. addressed about 200 children, who had. assembled on the pier and told them that the fireworks had been arranged especially for the boys and girls. He expressed thanks on behalf of the board and of the Lyttelton Borough Council to the members of the Lyttelton Fire Brigade, who had assisted with the display. ARBOUR LIGHT THEATRE.
