ABOUT ADVERTISING
PJannin.? Advertisements. By Gilbert Russell. George Allen and Unwin Ltd. 159 pp. (6s net.) This is a small book, but into it arc crowded, without appearing to be, many facts and much wisdom about advertising. The author describes the work of advertisement writers, visualisers, designers, illustrators,' and typographers in preparing advertisements, and the reasons for the methods they employ. Advertising agents and advertisers themselves can learn much from what Mr Russell has to say, and because he says it in interesting and lively fashion, his book is more than study, it is pleasurable reading. Its chief value lies in its shrewd valuation and analysis of advertising methods, in which he discusses, with examples, types of advertising that have made good, and others that have not, and explains why.
