A complaint in a newspaper that uncertainty and confusion leading to accidents were caused by the nonoperation of the traffic light signals on Sundays and holidays was supported by Mr E. A. Batt, chairman oi the executive of the Automobile Association (Wellington) at its meeting this week. He described the switching off of the lights on those occasions as ridiculous. The other side of the question was given by the secretary, Mr W. A. Sutherland, who said that the working of the lights during the slack periods of holidays was inconvenient and unnecessary. It was better to switch the lights off, he said, than to have traffic wailing fo: the "go" signal for long periods when there was no other traffic about. The question will bo brought before the next meeting of the executive, after it has been discussed with the city traffic department.
