"SALLY"
TO THB EDITOB 01 I'HB f&HSS. Sir,—l note that Mr Hall has stated that the Christchurch Operatic Society, now known as the Christchurch Musical Comedy Company, will be able to carry on, but as I have been present at the excellent performance of "Sally"
[ Curlns the v.-cch, I 'much doubt 'Uiaf.* \ unless the society has a capacity house 'next Saturday night, for the attend; ;ances of the public have bee# verypoor for thisperfonaaEce. *'■ I note by the papers that appeals are being; made for other musical societies in this city r and 1,, for one, do not believe for one moment that. Christchurch people do not appreciate their singers, actors, and dancers*.,but they undoubtedly should give them better support financially;' for when Christchurch singers, etc., travel to other towns they always obtain great support andjpraise irom the public. If the Operatic Society continues to function next rear, I trust it will seriously consider the advisability of putting its show on at the.. Theatre Royal instead of St. James* Theatre; second, that they should adopt a new scale of charges for admission—3s, 2s, Is; also employ an up-to-date advertising firm to take charge of their ad- ■ vertising. Further, the executive and members of the society must be a great deal more enthusiastic about their shows, and take a lesson from the undergraduates of Canterbury College. I trust the general public will roll up in good numbers next Saturday, for "Sally," in my opinion, is well worth seeing, and the ballets the best the society has ever staged.—Yoiu;s, etc., SUPPORTER. , May 6, 1935.
