.—* JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS liARGE ATTENDANCE IN GOOD WEATHER (•PJSCIIAL TO TS* nua.l BLENHEIM, May 6. Marlborough was favoured with bright sunshine for the jubilee celebrations to-day. After a very cold night, with 15 degrees of frost, proceedings began with a ceremonial parade of mounted rifles, infantry, returned soldiers, senior cadets, boy scouts, girl guides, representatives of sports clubs, and members of friendly societies to the Market Place, where the official ceremony was held at 11 o'clock. The Market Square presented a pleasing sight. The Government buildings were decorated with bunting. A large crowd from all parts of the district attended. The ceremony began with the broadcast from Wellington of the GovernorGeneral's speech, followed by speeches by Mr E. F. Healy, M.P., the Mayor, Mr A. J. H. Gavin, chairman. of the Awatere County Council, Mr A. H. Nees, representing the Marlborough County Council, and Archdeacon O. J. Kimberley. At the conclusion of the' address, the Mayor announced that jubilee medals had been awarded to several wellknown residents of Marlborough. He presented three of the medals to Lieut-enant-Colonel A. C. Nathan, M.C., Lieutenant-Colonel W. T. Churchward, and Major F. C. Hammond. The ceremony concluded with three cheers for his Majesty. The parade marched away, the military units dispersing at the Drill Hall, and the remainder of the procession going to Lansdowne Park, where a gala was held by the business, professional, and trades queens carnival committee in aid of the Regimental Band instruments fund. The afternoon was overcast and cold. This evening a successful community sing was held by the same committee at the Town Hall. Afterwards a dance was held, the music b'eing played by Noel Rose's orchestra. Presentation The Marlborough Kennel Club held a social and dance at the Orange Hall on Saturday evening, to make a presentation to Mr F. A. Harrison, the retiring secretary, who had held the position since the club's foundation five years ago. The presentation was made by Mr J. Waters, in the absence of the president, Mr W. Hodson. Mr Waters also made a presentation to Mr D. L. Mahar, an executive member, who will leave shortly to start business in Nelson. Tlie opportunity was taken by the Celtic Cricket Club, the Marlborough Athletic Club, and the Marlborough Boxing Association, of which Mr Mahar was a member, to say goodbye to him and to make presentations.
